Audi S4 Sedan & Avant in Depth
Audi S4, new for 2009 and ready to play. Two versions of the same car, a sedan capable of carrying people and luggage, and an Avant, just as capable and adding skis plus family dog. At the heart of the S4 is a throbbing petrol V6 displacing 3.0-litres in size. In their wisdom, Audi saw it fit to install a supercharger to compliment this V6 motor, thereby creating a bahnstormer of 245kW/ 333 hp. Maximum torque is quoted at 440Nm. Although supercharged, the S4 is badged TFSI like the turbo charged Audis.

2008 SEMA : HUMMER Concepts To Debut
First up is the H3T Weekend Warrior concept which features 5.3L V-8 with an additional 70 hp over the production version, thanks to several products from GM Performance Parts.
Hummer is planning to unveil a trio of concept H3’s at SEMA to show how a few weekends of work and a host of HUMMER and GM accessories can turn a standard H3 into an off-road beast.
The new components include new cylinder heads, higher-lift camshaft, and a custom 3.5-inch exhaust system. Riding on 20-inch wheels fitted with BFGoodrich Baja T/A tires, the concept uses aftermarket suspension parts in order to tackle the worst trails a driver can throw at it. Other changes include custom Baja Orange Metallic paint, a host of HUMMER exterior accessories, and a black leather interior with orange accents.
The final H3 is a joint project between HUMMER and Four Wheeler Magazine called Trailhugger. It aims to increase the H3’s off-road capability, while retaining daily-driver comfort. In order to accomplish this, they fitted the vehicle with performance shocks, 16-inch wheels fitted with BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain tires, a roof rack, a wireless remote-operated perimeter lighting system, and a Warn winch. Under the hood is a 5.3L V-8, outfitted with a MagnaFlow exhaust system.
The H3 X Concept has all the standard equipment from the production H3 X Alpha but adds unique 18-inch wheels, 35-inch-tall tires, black chrome exterior accents, a distinctive Canyon Metallic exterior with body color bumper accents, and clear turn signal lenses. Inside black leather with orange stitching match the custom floor mats, while rear seat passengers are treated to a headrest mounted DVD entertainment system.

New 2009 JDM Honda Odyssey Revealed
Underneath the new, slightly stretched sheet metal lies a reworked chassis sporting double wishbones at all four corners, optional all-wheel-drive and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder i-VTEC powerplant putting out 171 hp in standard guise and 203 hp in the range-topping Absolute model.
Honda's JDM Odyssey – not to be confused with the U.S.-market people mover that shares the same name – has been hailed as one of the best handling minivans in Japan. For 2009, Honda has taken everything good about the outgoing third-generation model and made it better, beginning with a sleeker exterior that pulls a few cues from the Honda FCX Clarity.
Similar to the Fit sold in the States, the seating can be arranged in a multitude of ways, including folding flat to create something resembling a bed. We'd like to scam one out of Honda during our next trip to Japan so we can post on the move and don't have to worry about heading back to our hotel – which is traditionally only slightly smaller than the new Odyssey.
The interior is adorned with all the techy tidbits that made previous generations a hit with family-toting geeks, including a sci-fi inspired dash and a new multi-positioned camera system that allows drivers to get a bird's eye view of the vehicle.

Smart car2go car rental project Testing in Germany
Daimler has initiated a pilot program that offers a future-oriented answer to increasing traffic volume in urban areas. The Smart car2go mobility concept is basically a car rental service that offers the possibility to rent a Smart via cell phone or internet. The pilot Smart car2go project will start in October in Ulm, Germany, with 50 smart fortwos.
The Smart car2go service uses an electronic chip located on the customer's driving license that enables the access in the car. The customer can rent a Smart in several different ways: spontaneous 'passing' rental, wherever a customer finds a free smart, they can hire it 'on-the-spot' or they can book it with 24 hours in advance. The Smart car2go service offers the possibility to locate a free car via the internet or a telephone service hotline.

Action Mobil:New Globecruiser model—first picture
The new Globecruiser model—first picture below—fits the bill nicely. Due for a shakedown trip to Africa in April 2009, it’s based on the MAN TGA 6×6 platform—as occasionally used by Unicat, that other purveyor of expedition excess.
The two fuel tanks hold 219 gallons. A refill costs enough to put an Icelandic bank out of business, but if you can afford the Globecruiser’s €490,000 ($670,000) sticker price, you can afford $800 at the pump.
Motive power comes from a giant 783ci turbodiesel, which pumps out a very healthy 388 kW. (Actually, make that a fairly healthy 388 kW—this mill doesn’t meet the latest EURO 5 regulations, but EURO 3 isn’t too bad considering.)
The water capacity is equally awe-inspiring at 154 gallons, which no doubt contributes to the Globecruiser’s 21-ton weight. So don’t ask what the mileage is. But if that makes you feel guilty, check out the 4 x 240W solar system, which supplements the batteries and LPG tanks. Drivers are well looked after too, with heated air-suspension seats, and satellite systems to provide pinpoint navigation to the nearest водка bar.

You probably won’t bump into Al Gore driving an Action Mobil. But if you’re a well-heeled survivalist, a Mad Max re-enactor or a Robb Report reader, get your PA to call +43 6582 72712-0. And get Stephan on the line.
Action Mobil’s website is rather dodgy, but whatever. These guys are engineers, not online marketing specialists. Around 250 expedition vehicles have rolled out of the Saalfelden werks since 1979, and the company recently delivered the world’s largest all-wheel-drive motorhome to a client in the Middle East. (Where gas prices are presumably of little concern.)

Benzs.blogspot_Carlsson CK63 S
The new Carlsson CK63 S is yet another proposal for those who look at Merc's AMG models and see nothing more than underpowered four-door saloons. Taking the C63 AMG as a base, Carlsson's engineers developed a performance kit that boosts the serial output of the 6.3-litre V8 from 457HP to 565HP while the torque significantly increases from 600 to 685 Nm. The German tuner claims that the CK63 S needs a mere 3.8 sec to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (62mph) instead of the serial 4.5 sec. The sport sedan's top speed is electronically limited to 300 km/h or 187mph. -Continued
Moving on to the vehicle's styling, Carlsson's aerodynamic kit consists of a front spoiler, the front spoiler lip and a rear spoiler which are made of high-quality PUR or optionally real carbon. The kit is complemented by a set of lightweight 19-inch alloy wheels. As for the interior, it all depends on how much you're willing to spend as Carlsson compiles various components to an individual mix, from a sport steering wheel to leather interiors or multi-media accessories.
To help put the additional power on the road in a sensible manner, Carlsson has developed a sport coil-over kit that offers step-less height adjustment and individual settings for the damping characteristics with which the driver can regulate the setup according to his preferences. If you're willing to push your hand deeper into the pocket, Carlsson also offers an optional torque-sensitive multi-plate limited slip differential with mechanically variable lock-up.

New 2010 Mercedes E-Class Down to Last Strips of Camouflage
The next-generation Mercedes E-Class, set for a March debut at the Geneva show, has been caught with minimal camouflage during testing. The revised lines, which split the difference between the C-Class and S-Class, are evident under the tape, as is the new grille and headlight treatment. The reskin is most evident at the rear, where a faster rear windshield line and more coupelike C-pillar eliminate much of the boxy look that’s been common to E-Classes in recent years. The new styling is by no means groundbreaking, but should continue to please the large number of loyal E-Class buyers while keeping the car's looks current.
The usual wide range of engine options is expected, with V6, V8 and Bluetec diesel offerings. The new E-Class wagon has also been spotted in testing, and will likely debut some time after the sedans hit the showrooms.

L.A. Auto Show Design Challenge Entries - Japanese & American Automakers
Continuing on from our look at the German automakers' efforts for the Design Los Angeles Design Challenge 2009, the focus is now on the entries submitted by Japanese and American manufacturers. This is a competition of particular importance to designers, hosted in a city and in turn a region famed for its trendsetting but also for its position as having the greatest concentration of manufacturer design studios in the world.
In recent years, the challenge has covered briefs from the designing of a 'RoboCar for 2057' to that which takes the future of driving to an 'environmental experience', with previous wins from GM, GMC and Dodge as well as two from Volkswagen. Victorious American designs have included GM's Hummer O2, fitted with an algae-panelled body that enables CO2 emissions to be converted into O2, and the GMC Pad - a vehicle judges branded as a 'Living Activity Vehicle'.
This year's brief seeks a Motor Sports vehicle for 2025 - with designs being entered from across the continents. Japanese and American makers involved are General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota.
Honda’s The Great Race 2025
Honda designers forsee a reincarnation of the Great Race of 1908, in which 17 brave men dared to traverse the world. The race spanned twenty-two thousand miles and three continents, lasting six months. Honda's proposal for The Great Race 2025, 117 years after it was first devised, would take competitors across the US by land, Asia by sea and Europe by air.
In making such a race remotely feasible, Honda are keen to promote their brand's experience in all the necessary fields, from automotive and marine technologies to robotics and jet expertise. By possessing technologies that detect changes in speed, terrain and altitude, Honda's vehicle is able to adapt
GM Chaparral Volt
Designers at General Motors Advanced Design facility in California have gone local for their Chaparral Volt, drawing on the three features in abundance in the state - Earth, Wind and Fire - for a revival of the LA Times Grand Prix in 2025. Collecting its energy from these three sources, managing them and in turn powering EREV propulsion, the Chaparral Volt creates a new category in racing: the eco-triathlon.
Earth provides high braking efficiency as well as active energy regeneration, Wind enables power cell cooling via rear turbine extractors, provides down force and (when reversed) assisted energy regeneration and braking power. Fire is the integration of a thin poly-vinyl layer into the Volt's body to capture the energy of the sun for conversion into stored energy for use by the primary energy source.
Mitsubishi Motors MMR25
Breaking away from convention, Mitsubishi have designed beyond the traditional four-by-four, instead opting for a drivetrain touting 8x4 wheel drive. Explained somewhat more clearly in the accompanying photos, the omni-directional all-terain wheels allow for forward driving while the car itself faces in any other direction. Cornering is particularly interesting because the car can be pointed in the target direction before entering the apex, the MMR25 therefore entering a bend sideways. Further pecularities include a center wing that acts as spoiler and front and rear spoilers that double as suspension blades.
MAZDA KAAN
Working on the basis that Californian freeways will have been resurfaced in a sub-level electro-conductive polymer by 2025, powering the electric cars of the near-future, Mazda's design team present Kaan, an electric racing car designed to compete in the E1 races. Using this and an electronic tire system, the Kaan will be powered to 250 mph top speeds free of harmful emissions.
Designed for racing with up to thirty competitiors per team, the vehicle is optimised around its energy-drawing wheels with the cabin providing space for one occupant and its aerodynamics made for greatest efficiency in packs in a vain similar to that of cycling peletons.
Toyota Lemans Racer
Californian Toyota designers at Calty Design Research, Inc. have come up with an adaptable racing concept for 2025 that 'never needs to stop'. Powered by hydrogen fuel cell, the Lemans Racer can also be charged from its photovoltaic body panels should further energy be required.
With two modes, each adapting the vehicle to the required characteristics of each, the LeMans can achieve optimisations in aerodynamics or grip dependent on whether High Speed Mode or Cornering Mode is selected. In High Speed Mode, the body and wheels narrow, reducing drag and resistance to reach its 350 mph top speed. Cornering Mode stabilises the vehicle by widening the body and expanding the wheels to establish the greatest contact and grip through tight turns.
The cockpit is entirely digital both for optimum safety and race performance, the environment enhanced by virtual reality and computer recommendations on trajectory, collision avoidance and even boasting an automated co-pilot system.
